Some years after this photo was taken, Sound-Gard Body manufacturing was added in a large complex a the top of page 5 (page 7 of the magazine), about where the smoke is drifting. To do this, the waterway behind the plant had to be physically moved back. In 1964, this was the entire plant. Later, considerable additional land was acquired beyond the view at the upper portion of the photo to build the Electric Foundry (electric arc furnaces versus cupolas for meltig) and the Hydraulic Works. This extended the Deere property clear down to just across the street from the Cattle Congress grounds, location of the past seven Two- Cylinder Expos, and of Expo XXIV this year. Today, most of the buildings seen here have been leveled. They’re gone.
